Tvilum is one of the first furniture manufacturers in the world to make production eco-friendly at every step, from timber logging, to production and indoor climate. The company is a member of PEFC® and FSC®, which both help ensure sustainable forestry operations.
98% of Tvilum's furniture is PEFC® certified. PEFC® is the world's most widespread forestry certification scheme, and certifies two-thirds of all sustainable forestry. This certification is recognised by several international organisations and by a total of 149 governments around the world.

Most of Tvilum's products have a chipboard core, which is made using recycled wood (25%) and surplus woodchips from sawmills. The chips are compressed under great pressure, using the smallest possible amount of adhesive, in order to preserve a healthy indoor climate and the environment in general.
42% of Tvilum's energy consumption is CO2-neutral, and we are actively working to make this even better. Our buildings are also heated using heat generated in our own heating plant, by combusting waste products from production.
Our chipboard sheet cutting processes are designed to minimise the waste from each sheet. Residual chipboard is recycled to produce new chipboard sheets, or combusted in our incineration plant.
GOODBYE TO HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES
Tvilum has developed a working method which ensures minimum use of adhesives. 99% of our furniture carries the renowned Danish indoor climate label, and fulfils the CARB (the California Air Resources Board) requirements. CARB conducts research into environmental contamination and produces standards for the maximum permitted airborne contamination of the environment.

Tvilum has not used PVC in the production of plastic handles since 1994, and our furniture is completely free of PVC and other toxic substances. For example, our film is made from paper, not PVC.
For the sake of the environment during disposal, we have also reduced the lead content in the mirrors used in our furniture. We also strive as far as possible to combine shipments, so as to avoid sending trucks and containers which are half empty.
GREEN DAILY ROUTINES
Tvilum's green profile is an integrated part of how we work. All employees work actively and naturally with consideration for the environment and health in their daily work. For example, all employees sort waste, so that cardboard, paper and plastic are sent for recycling.
Tvilum also uses FSC®-certified paper, which originates from sustainable forestry. We have also generally reduced the need for stationery, for example by:
- Optimising product information on the website
- Establishing a webshop and electronic ordering
- Using electronic news and information letters
